Sharjah24: World No. 1 Spanish player Carlos Alcaraz continued his charge for a maiden Australian Open title, defeating Frenchman Corentin Moutet 6-2, 6-4, 6-1 on Friday at Rod Laver Arena in just over two hours.

Career milestone

 The match marked Alcaraz’s 100th appearance in Grand Slam tournaments, where he boasts an outstanding record of 87 wins and 13 losses, equaling Swedish legend Björn Borg at the same stage of his career.

Other highlights

 The day also saw Belarusian world No. 1 Aryna Sabalenka admit to being “emotionally distracted” despite a hard-fought win, while Russian Daniil Medvedev advanced with difficulty under warm Melbourne conditions.
