Evolution of charitable engagement in the UAE
Sheikha Lubna explained that charitable work in the UAE has evolved from traditional short-term charity into a broad societal effort supported by government, corporations, families, and communities. She praised government-led initiatives such as the Zayed Sustainability Prize, which supports young innovators creating solutions in energy, health, food, and sustainability.
Recognising impactful community initiatives
She also commended initiatives led under Her Highness Sheikha Jawaher bint Mohammed Al Qasimi, including the Pink Caravan campaign for early breast cancer detection. The campaign deploys mobile screening clinics across the UAE and screened nearly 20,000 people last October alone through corporate-supported community outreach.
Entrepreneurs urged to build social impact from day one
Her Highness Sheikha Lubna stressed that gratitude should guide business and community engagement. She encouraged entrepreneurs to integrate social responsibility into their ventures from the beginning, stating that “Entrepreneurs should not wait until they are wealthy to contribute.” She added that companies succeed when communities thrive alongside them.
Education as a sustainable form of philanthropy
Sheikha Lubna emphasised that education remains one of the most sustainable forms of philanthropy, noting the growing role of universities supported by corporate partners and alumni contributions that fund scholarships and research opportunities.
Inclusive design and wellbeing in entrepreneurship
Sayyida Dr. Basma Al Said, founder of Whispers of Serenity Clinic, led a session on designing inclusive solutions. She stressed that entrepreneurs should avoid designing for an imagined “average user,” and instead adopt inclusion as a mindset from the start. She also emphasised founder wellbeing, urging entrepreneurs to prioritise mental health and seek support when needed.
