Sharjah 24: The Sharjah Social Services Department is celebrating World Health Day 2026, observed on April 7th, across its centres and care facilities. The department provides vital services, including material support, living assistance, awareness programmes, and specialised medical and health care for those most in need, particularly the elderly and people with disabilities.

Quality healthcare services

The department’s services are divided into two main categories. The first focuses on ensuring high-quality healthcare according to professional standards. The Quality and Age-Friendly Healthcare Services Office oversees these services, including dental care for elderly and disabled residents at the University Dental Hospital in Sharjah, licensing medical staff and healthcare facilities, coordinating medical waste disposal, and inspecting medical equipment twice a year. The office also supervises professional development for medical staff through conferences and specialised courses and provides medical insurance in coordination with a private insurer.

Home medical services for vulnerable groups

The second category emphasises home-based medical care. Kholoud Al Ali, Director of the Elderly Services Centre, highlighted daily home visits for seniors and people with disabilities, including regular checkups, appointment bookings, and transportation to healthcare facilities. Dr Ahlam Al Marzouqi, Head of the Medical Clinic, explained that services include urgent home visits, medical supply registration, medications, physical therapy, and home nursing for bedridden patients. Requests can be submitted via the department’s hotline (800700), after which a doctor and nurse conduct an initial examination, with ambulance support provided if needed.
