The session discussed activating supportive policies and procedures for students with learning difficulties in higher education institutions, identifying suitable support mechanisms to enhance their university experience, and strengthening integration and coordination among relevant stakeholders. It also highlighted the challenges and opportunities students face at this stage. The event targeted parents, specialists, stakeholders and university students, providing a platform to explore ways to improve students’ quality of life in higher education.
Her Excellency Dr Hanadi Al Suwaidi, Director of the Sharjah Center for Learning Difficulties, said the session reflects the centre’s commitment to supporting students with learning difficulties across all educational stages, particularly at university, by establishing constructive channels of dialogue with partners and stakeholders.
She explained that the discussions aim to shed light on students’ realities in higher education, address their challenges and review opportunities to improve their university experience through practical, applicable policies and procedures. She added that the centre places strong emphasis on coordination among educational institutions, parents and specialists to create a supportive and inclusive university environment that enhances students’ academic and social success.
Her Excellency Dr Aisha Bukhatir Al Shamsi, Secretary-General of the Sharjah Council for Higher Education and Scientific Research, said the session demonstrates the council’s commitment to enhancing the quality of university life for all students, including those with learning difficulties, through inclusive policies that ensure equal opportunities and supportive learning environments.
She added that the council works with relevant entities to promote flexible practices and supportive policies that address students’ needs, noting that investing in quality of life positively impacts academic achievement, psychological wellbeing and social integration, and contributes to building a more inclusive and sustainable higher education system in Sharjah.
The session also addressed several themes, including supporting and empowering students with learning difficulties at university, strengthening effective communication among stakeholders, and building an educational environment that meets their needs and improves their overall university experience.
