Sharjah24: The Sharjah Economic Development Department (SEDD) has intensified its field inspections across markets and commercial establishments in the emirate as part of preparations for the Holy Month of Ramadan and its commitment to upholding sound economic practices and protecting the rights of both consumers and traders.

These efforts form part of a comprehensive year-round monitoring plan, which is intensified before and during Ramadan. The department is organising awareness and inspection campaigns targeting central markets, shops, and retail outlets to ensure that all economic establishments comply with applicable regulations, thereby reinforcing transparency and a fair, safe commercial environment.

Focus on prices and promotional offers

Inspection teams are conducting an intensive schedule of field visits, focusing on clear price displays, the absence of practices harmful to consumers, and the safety and accuracy of promotional offers. The teams are also verifying the accuracy of weighing scales and measuring devices used in markets to ensure compliance with approved national standards.

Protecting consumers and enhancing trust

Salem Al Suwaidi, Director of the Commercial Control and Protection Department, said the authority intensifies its monitoring efforts annually during high-demand seasons, particularly during Ramadan. He noted that the campaigns aim to ensure sound economic practices across the emirate and to boost consumer confidence in local markets.

He added that the department continues its awareness efforts by publishing guidance and instructions through various channels and encouraging consumers to report any observations or complaints via official platforms, strengthening community partnerships and market stability during the holy month.

Ongoing campaigns throughout Ramadan

Sharjah Economic Development affirmed that its inspection campaigns will continue throughout Ramadan, in line with its role in supporting sustainable economic development and ensuring an organised commercial environment that meets community expectations and reflects Sharjah’s status as a leading economic hub.
