Sharjah24: Manchester City claimed an important 2–1 home victory over Newcastle United in the opening match of round 27 of the Premier League. City secured their third straight league win thanks to two goals from 20-year-old midfielder Nico O’Reilly, increasing the pressure on leaders Arsenal.

O’Reilly opened the scoring in the 14th minute before Newcastle equalised through Lewis Hall eight minutes later. The youngster restored City’s lead with a close-range header in the 27th minute.

Title race tightens

It was City’s fifth consecutive win in all competitions and their 17th league victory this season, lifting them to 56 points, just two behind Arsenal, who face rivals Tottenham Hotspur.

Villa held at home

Aston Villa dropped points with a 1–1 draw against Leeds United at Villa Park. Anton Stach put Leeds ahead before Tammy Abraham equalised late on. Villa remain third with 51 points, while Leeds climbed to 15th.

Chelsea frustrated late

At Stamford Bridge, Chelsea were held 1–1 by Burnley. João Pedro gave Chelsea an early lead, but a stoppage-time equaliser denied them victory. Reduced to ten men after Wesley Fofana’s dismissal, Chelsea moved to 45 points in fourth, ahead of Manchester United, who play Everton on Monday.
