Arsenal now need to win their remaining three matches to secure the title for the first time in 22 years.
City opened the scoring through Belgium’s Jeremy Doku (43), but the hosts turned the game around with goals from France’s Thierno Barry (68, 81) and Ireland’s Jake O’Brien. However, Pep Guardiola’s side responded in the closing stages to rescue a point through two late goals from Norway’s Erling Haaland (83) and Doku himself (90+8).
City, who have a game in hand, remain five points behind Arsenal, while the latter now control their own destiny in ending their long wait for the title.
Arsenal have three remaining fixtures, starting with West Ham on Sunday, followed by a home match against Burnley, before finishing away to Crystal Palace on the final matchday.
Nottingham Forest took a major step towards securing their Premier League survival with a 3–1 win away at Chelsea, dealing a significant blow to the Blues’ hopes of qualifying for the Champions League.
Nigeria’s Taiwo Awoniyi marked his 100th appearance for Forest by opening the scoring at Stamford Bridge (2), before Brazil’s Igor Jesus doubled the lead from the penalty spot (15). Cole Palmer missed the chance to reduce the deficit after failing to convert a penalty before half-time.
Awoniyi added his second goal early in the second half (52), before Brazil’s João Pedro scored a late consolation for Chelsea (90+3).
Chelsea are now ten points adrift of the Champions League qualification spots, sitting ninth with 48 points, while Nottingham Forest are 16th with 42 points, six points above the relegation zone.
It is Chelsea’s sixth consecutive league defeat, their worst run since 1993.
However, sixth place could still secure a Champions League spot if Aston Villa finish fifth and win the Europa League, keeping Chelsea, currently four points behind sixth-placed Bournemouth, with a slim chance.
