Sharjah 24: Sevilla FC has announced the appointment of Luis García Plaza as their new coach, replacing Argentine Matías Almeyda.

Sevilla FC, currently battling relegation, has appointed Luis García Plaza as their new coach, just one day after sacking Argentine Matías Almeyda.

Leading the first team until June 2027

Sevilla, who finished 17th in La Liga last season, are currently 15th this season, only three points above the relegation zone.

The club stated in a press release, "Sevilla FC has reached an agreement with Madrid-born coach Luis García Plaza," adding that the new coach "will lead the first team until June 30, 2027."

García Plaza, 53, has been without a club since being sacked by Alavés in December 2014, but he has extensive experience, having managed 229 league matches with Levante, Getafe, Villarreal, and Alavés.

He has also managed teams in the UAE, China, and Saudi Arabia.

Almeyda, who was appointed this season and led the team in 32 official matches, was sacked after Saturday's 2-0 defeat to Valencia, which left the team embroiled in a relegation battle.
