Stellar Liverpool career
The 33-year-old Egyptian forward joined Liverpool from Roma in 2017 and made 435 appearances, scoring 255 goals, making him the club’s third all-time leading scorer. Salah won the Premier League Golden Boot four times and played a key role in Liverpool’s 2019/20 and 2024/25 Premier League triumphs, the 2019 Champions League victory, and other honours including the Club World Cup, UEFA Super Cup, FA Cup, and two League Cups.
Farewell message
In a social media video, Salah said: "Unfortunately, the day has come. I will be leaving Liverpool at the end of the season. Liverpool is not just a football club. It's a passion, it's a history, it's a spirit. Leaving is never easy… This club will always be my home, to me and to my family."
Challenges and speculation
Salah, currently injured, has scored five Premier League goals this season compared with 29 in last year’s title-winning campaign. Speculation about his future grew after a reported bust-up with Liverpool manager Arne Slot in December, when Salah accused the club of “throwing him under the bus” after being benched for three matches.
Liverpool’s statement
Liverpool confirmed on their website that Salah will end his nine-year tenure at Anfield after the season, noting that “with plenty still left to play for this season,” the full celebration of his career will occur at his farewell.
Recent form
Salah was forced off in Liverpool’s 4-0 Champions League win over Galatasary, but had scored in three of his past four starts. He missed the 2-1 defeat to Brighton, affecting Liverpool’s chances of securing next season’s Champions League spot.
