The winners of the 2025–2026 edition were recently announced, with Mariam Abdullah Mubarak from Oman taking first place for her play “A Will Before I Was Born,” followed by Ahmed Abdullah Rashid from the UAE in second for “He Wronged Himself,” and Badr Al Humaidani from Oman in third for “The Station.”
Mariam Mubarak expressed her gratitude, describing the award as an unexpected honour. She noted that her work explores the symbolic concept of a fetus as a space where human experiences intersect, raising ethical and existential questions. She emphasised the complementary relationship between text and performance, highlighting the importance of writing for the stage while maintaining literary depth.
Ahmed Abdullah Rashid described his second-place victory as the culmination of a lifelong passion for storytelling. His play offers a comedic yet thought-provoking narrative about an ordinary man caught in an unusual situation, illustrating how minor problems can develop into major crises.
Badr Al Humaidani regarded his third-place victory as a pivotal moment, noting that his play “The Station” explores existential themes of time, identity, and waiting through symbolic storytelling. He emphasised the award’s role in promoting theatrical writing across the Arab world and inspiring high-quality productions.
The award continues to recognise creativity, support emerging voices, and strengthen the Arab theatre landscape.
