Sharjah 24: The Sharjah Waste-to-Energy Plant (SWTEP) has processed one million tonnes of waste since its inception, a key milestone that demonstrates the emirate's commitment to eliminating waste from landfills. The achievement also gives a meaningful boost to the UAE's broader energy strategy and its long-term drive towards climate neutrality.

With the second phase of the project now announced, the plant continues to generate 30 megawatts of low-carbon electricity, feeding it directly into Sharjah's public power grid. At the same time, it is helping to cut the equivalent of 450,000 tonnes of carbon dioxide emissions every year, simply by diverting waste away from landfill sites.

The plant is the flagship project of Emirates Waste to Energy Company, a joint venture between BEEAH and Tadweer Group. It opened in 2022 and is the first commercial waste-to-energy plant in the area.
