Sharjah 24: As part of its efforts to strengthen partnerships between higher education institutions and the healthcare sector, the University of Sharjah (UOS) celebrated the graduation of a cohort of participants in the Professional Diploma in Leadership in Medical Education. The diploma programme, organised by the university's Medical Education Centre for the benefit of the Dubai Corporation for Ambulance Services, aims to develop the skills of paramedics, enhance their leadership capabilities, and improve the quality of emergency medical services.

Developing national expertise in integrated healthcare

In his welcoming remarks, His Excellency Professor Dr Essam El-Din Ajami, Director of the University of Sharjah, noted that this ceremony embodies a practical model of partnership between higher education institutions and the healthcare sector, reflecting a shared commitment to developing national expertise in integrated healthcare. He emphasised that higher education fulfils its true mission when it achieves a tangible impact on society, pointing out that the partnership with the Dubai Corporation for Ambulance Services stemmed from a genuine assessment of the sector's need for academically and practically qualified professionals.

Reshaping education and leadership

The Director of the UOS added: “The programme completed by these graduates was not designed to simply impart information, but rather to reshape the way we think about education and leadership. What distinguishes this programme is that it prepared them to be mentors to their peers. The impact they will have will not be limited to themselves, but will extend to everyone they teach and guide. Thus, we at the university are committed to providing education and training that is relevant to the needs of society, contributes to supporting the nation’s priorities, and prepares qualified individuals capable of addressing challenges efficiently and responsibly. This is achieved by adopting global best practices and employing modern technologies in teaching and learning, which enhances the quality of outcomes and achieves integration between knowledge and application.”

Dr Essam concluded by expressing his gratitude to His Highness Sheikh Sultan bin Ahmed Al Qasimi, Deputy Ruler of Sharjah and President of the University of Sharjah, for his continuous support, which makes the university a beacon that translates his vision into all the national programmes and initiatives it offers.

Integrating academic knowledge with practical experience

For his part, His Excellency Meshal Abdulkarim Julfar, Executive Director of the Dubai Corporation for Ambulance Services, expressed his pride in the fruitful partnership with the University of Sharjah, which he described as a leading national model for integrating academic knowledge with practical experience. This integration contributes to preparing national cadres capable of leading transformation and development, and enhancing the quality of healthcare in the community according to the highest international standards. He noted that the graduation of leaders from the Corporation's staff today from this program represents a strategic step towards establishing a sustainable internal knowledge system that enhances the readiness of ambulance teams and supports the continuous development and improvement of institutional performance.

The Executive Director of the Dubai Corporation for Ambulance Services added: "The emergency medical sector is one of the most vital and important sectors, given its direct role in saving lives and enhancing quality of life. This amplifies our responsibility to prepare qualified personnel who possess the ability to make decisions in critical moments and lead teams efficiently in various circumstances."

Tangible positive impact that contributes to enhancing the quality of medical care

Julfar concluded by saying: "We have confidence in your abilities, and we rely on your role in making a tangible positive impact that contributes to enhancing the quality of medical care and achieving the vision of your institution and your nation in achieving global leadership."
