Sharjah24 - WAM: The Secretary-General of the United Nations, Antonio Guterres, has welcomed the United States’ announcement to extend the ceasefire, describing it as a significant step toward de-escalation and the creation of vital space for diplomacy and confidence-building between Iran and the United States.

Call for continued restraint and dialogue

This was conveyed in a statement delivered by Stéphane Dujarric, Spokesman for the Secretary-General, who emphasised that Guterres urges all parties to build on this momentum, avoid any actions that could undermine the ceasefire, and engage constructively in negotiations aimed at achieving a sustainable and lasting resolution.

Support for Pakistan’s mediation efforts

“The Secretary-General fully supports Pakistan’s efforts to facilitate further talks,” the statement added, expressing hope that these efforts will help create conditions conducive to a comprehensive and durable resolution to the conflict.
