UAE condemns attack on UNIFIL forces in southern Lebanon

Sharjah 24 – WAM: The United Arab Emirates strongly condemned the attack on the French battalion within the United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL) in southern Lebanon, which resulted in the death of one soldier and injuries to three other members of the international force.

The UAE affirmed that targeting peacekeepers constitutes a violation of the principles of international law and of the provisions of Security Council Resolution 1701.

UAE expresses solidarity and extends condolences

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs conveyed the UAE’s solidarity with the countries contributing troops to UNIFIL, and extended sincere condolences to the family of the victim, the French Republic and its friendly people, while wishing a speedy recovery to those injured.

UAE calls for investigation and accountability

The UAE called on the Lebanese government to fulfill its responsibilities to protect UNIFIL forces, investigate the circumstances of the attack, ensure it is not repeated, and take all necessary legal measures to hold those responsible accountable.

UAE reaffirms support for Lebanon’s stability

The UAE also reiterated its support for the Lebanese government during this critical period, and its backing of efforts to consolidate weapons under state control and dismantle terrorist organizations, as a crucial step toward strengthening national security and stability.
