In a statement issued on Wednesday, Al-Azhar said that targeting civilian and economic infrastructure and the resources of states constitutes a religiously prohibited transgression. It also represents a direct threat to the security and stability of peoples and a blatant violation of international law.
Al-Azhar called for an immediate halt to these attacks, an end to the intimidation of civilians, respect for the principles of good neighbourliness, adherence to a ceasefire, and the promotion of wisdom, reason, and dialogue. It further urged resorting to negotiations as the only viable path to resolving disputes and preventing enemies of the nation from exploiting the situation.
