Sharjah 24: The San Antonio Spurs levelled their series with the Minnesota Timberwolves at 1–1 after defeating them 133–95 in the second round of the NBA playoffs.

San Antonio Spurs, led by their French giant Victor Wembanyama, avenged their surprise 102–104 home defeat in Game 1 on Monday, re-establishing themselves as strong contenders with a commanding win — their largest in the playoffs since 1983.

Wembanyama (2.24m) played a key role, scoring 19 points along with 15 rebounds and two blocks.

Defensive dominance secures early control

The Defensive Player of the Year also helped restrict Minnesota to just 35 points in the first half — their lowest half-season scoring total — allowing the hosts to effectively secure victory before half-time.

The 24-point lead at the break extended to as many as 47 points in the second half, before San Antonio rested their starters in the closing stages.

Edwards contained as Knicks also win again

Minnesota star Anthony Edwards, who impressed in Game 1 after returning from a left knee injury, was limited to 12 points and spent the final quarter on the bench with ice on his legs.

In the other tie, the New York Knicks secured a second consecutive win over the Philadelphia 76ers, beating them 108–102.

Upcoming fixtures

The two teams will meet on Friday and Sunday in Minneapolis for Games 3 and 4, before San Antonio hosts Game 5 next Tuesday. If necessary, the series will return to Minnesota on 15 May, with a potential Game 7 scheduled in San Antonio on the 18th.
