San Antonio Spurs' French centre, Victor Wimpanyama, dominated his team's matchup against Oklahoma City Thunder's Canadian star, Shai Gilgeous-Alexander, leading his team to an epic 122-115 double-overtime win in Game 1 of the Western Conference Finals of the NBA playoffs.
Wimpanyama scored 41 points and grabbed 24 rebounds, forcing a second overtime with a spectacular three-pointer. He then scored nine of the Spurs' 14 points in the second overtime, handing the defending champions their first loss in the series.
"It was, honestly, pure willpower," Wimpanyama, 22, told NBC.
The French star played 49 minutes, outperforming Thunder's Gilgeous-Alexander, who received his second consecutive MVP award before the game.
With this victory at Baycom Centre in Oklahoma City, the Spurs secured home-court advantage in the best-of-seven series, with the winner advancing to the NBA Finals.
