Sharjah 24 – Marine rescue teams from the Sharjah Civil Defence Authority rescued a driver after his vehicle plunged into Khalid Lagoon opposite the Sharjah Courthouse on Thursday morning, with the entire operation completed in less than eight minutes.

Spotted during a routine patrol

The incident occurred at 7.04 am on 14 May while marine rescue personnel were carrying out a routine morning security patrol. Rescue teams spotted the vehicle as it fell into the water and immediately rushed to the scene. There was no delay, no waiting for a second call — the teams were already there and moved the moment the vehicle hit the water.

In and out in under eight minutes

Specialist rescue divers managed to reach the driver and pull him out of the submerged vehicle within minutes, highlighting the high level of preparedness, professionalism and operational readiness of the marine rescue teams. The driver was handed over to the National Ambulance at the scene, and his condition was described as excellent following the necessary medical attention.

Ready when needed

The authority was clear in its assessment of what made the difference — continuous training and sustained investment in field readiness. Operations of this nature, it noted, do not happen by chance. They are the product of teams that drill relentlessly so that when a real emergency arrives, the response is instinctive rather than considered. Rapid response and the ongoing development of field personnel, the Authority stressed, are central to protecting lives and strengthening community safety across Sharjah.
