The data reflects the effectiveness of national vaccination programmes and the strength of public healthcare systems across GCC member states.
According to the Centre’s weekly bulletin issued for World Health Day 2026, GCC countries continue to strengthen their leading role in supporting global healthcare by investing in medical research and development and expanding access to affordable medicines and vaccines.
The bulletin stressed that ongoing investment in healthcare infrastructure, alongside stronger international cooperation, remains a key pillar of Gulf health policies aimed at achieving universal health coverage and ensuring a sustainable and healthy future for all.
In support of global health initiatives, GCC countries contributed approximately US$842.7 million in Official Development Assistance (ODA) to the health sector and medical research in 2023.
This amount accounted for around 4.6 percent of total international development assistance, highlighting the GCC’s commitment to advancing global healthcare and promoting the transfer of medical knowledge.
The bulletin noted that these efforts align with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals, particularly Goal 3, which focuses on ensuring healthy lives and promoting well-being for all age groups.
It also highlighted the GCC countries’ role in supporting developing nations through contributions aimed at strengthening healthcare systems, improving their ability to address health challenges, and ensuring wider access to essential medicines and vaccines for different communities.
