The announcement followed a review of moon-sighting observations and reports submitted by specialists, experts and traditional moon-sighters across the United Arab Emirates via the approved observatory network, which is supervised by institutions and centres specialising in astronomy and space sciences.
Following the confirmed legal sighting of the crescent moon, the council announced that Monday, 18 May 2026, will mark the first day of Dhul Hijjah 1447 AH.
The council also confirmed that Wednesday, 27 May 2026, will be the first day of Eid al-Adha in the UAE.
