Sharjah24: Salem Khalfan Al Naqbi, Head of the Agriculture and Gardens Department at Khorfakkan Municipality, announced that more than 2.7 million flowers and trees have been planted across the city, enhancing its beauty with green spaces and cultivated mountainous areas.
In line with the directives of His Highness Sheikh Dr. Sultan bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Sharjah, to increase green spaces across the emirate, Khorfakkan Municipality is ramping up its efforts to enhance landscaping and tree planting throughout the city. These initiatives aim to protect the environment and enhance Khorfakkan’s urban beauty.

Al Naqbi emphasised that the municipality’s nursery serves as the primary source for cultivating and supplying the city with trees, shrubs, and flowers, playing a vital role in transforming Khorfakkan into a green oasis.

In a statement to Sharjah 24, he revealed that the nursery has made a significant contribution to the city by planting around 2.7 million trees and flowers. The nursery boasts an impressive collection of approximately 60 diverse species, housing an astounding amount of 116,000 trees and flowers. Among these are 65,000 vibrant Zinnia flowers and 30,000 flourishing Marigold seedlings.

Al-Naqbi further highlighted that the nursery features a diverse selection of local trees and plants. Additionally, it is home to thousands of decorative flowers and seasonal blooms. The nursery offers a range of trees, both fruit-bearing and non-fruit-bearing.

He also stressed that among the major recent projects completed by the municipality was the afforestation of Harai Street. Additionally, the municipality has enhanced Shees Rest Area and Al Nahwa Park with new trees, flowers, and green spaces.

He confirmed that the municipality's specialised departments have successfully planted around 70% of the targeted mountainous areas with trees suitable for the local environment, greatly improving the city's visual appeal and urban attractiveness.
