Sharjah 24: Reaffirming its commitment to developing an integrated sports environment that prioritises female athletes' health, Sharjah Women Sports signed on September 4 a Memorandum of Understanding with the University of Sharjah (UOS), represented by the University Dental Hospital, in line with the directives of Her Highness Sheikha Jawaher bint Mohammed Al Qasimi to integrate efforts and leverage the Emirate's institutional resources to serve shared goals.

This collaboration strengthens the comprehensive healthcare system, focusing on oral and dental health as a key element that directly impacts performance efficiency, self-confidence, and quality of life for female athletes.

Specialised preventive and therapeutic services

The agreement includes the provision of specialised preventive and therapeutic services, including early screening, treatment, and awareness, with special priority given to appointment bookings. The collaboration includes the allocation of a dentist to work at the Sharjah Women Sports headquarters. The agreement also supports the provision of a mobile clinic during sporting events, the manufacture of sports mouth guards in cooperation with accredited laboratories, and the development of precise treatment plans based on a comprehensive clinical assessment.

The scope of the partnership expands to include research, through the implementation of applied studies in areas such as temporomandibular joint disorders (TMD), periodontal disease, and sports-related oral injuries.

Cooperation with national institutions

His Excellency Professor Essam El-Din Ajami, Chancellor of UOS, said he is proud to sign the memorandum of understanding with Sharjah Women Sports, stressing that the university always welcomes cooperation with national institutions to serve the community and enhance Sharjah's position as an advanced centre for education, sports, and culture.

Ajami explained that this partnership will contribute to qualitative initiatives that enhance the health of female athletes, expressing his aspiration to expand the scope of cooperation in the future to include other fields and colleges, in line with the vision of His Highness Sheikh Dr Sultan bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Sharjah, and the directives of His Highness Sheikh Sultan bin Ahmed Al Qasimi, Deputy Ruler of Sharjah and President of the University of Sharjah (UOS), to support sustainable development.

Providing an integrated health-academic system

For her part, Her Excellency Hanan Al Mahmoud, Vice Chairperson of Sharjah Women Sports explained that the memorandum represents a new dimension in the organisation’s journey towards providing an integrated health-academic system. It adds specialised preventive and therapeutic services, and opens up research and awareness paths that contribute to enhancing the readiness of female athletes and sustaining their performance. Investing in oral and dental health is a direct investment in female athletes' confidence and their ability to compete honourably locally and internationally.

This memorandum constitutes an integrated institutional framework that ensures the continuity of examinations, treatment, awareness, and research, consolidating the Sharjah Women Sports position in supporting women's sports and enhancing the readiness of female athletes to improve their achievements in various fora.
