Sharjah24: Noura Al Mughni, Curator of the Sharjah Heritage Museum, stated that the exhibition “Local Plants in the United Arab Emirates: From the Roots of the Past to the Shades of the Present” is divided into four main sections — Medicines and Poisons, Ornamentals, Handicrafts, and Food — featuring plants such as the Ghaf tree, Sidr, Arta, and Moringa (Al-Shoua). The exhibition will continue until 30 April 2026.
In her statement to Sharjah 24, she explained that the exhibition allows visitors to closely explore local plant species within their mountain, coastal, and desert environments, through both living specimens and preserved samples displayed in specialised cases. It also includes an interactive educational programme with workshops for both children and adults, which are announced through the Sharjah Museums Authority’s digital platforms.
She added that an accompanying workshop was organised during the exhibition’s opening to produce Sidr soap, highlighting the use of local plants in traditional industries and natural products.
The exhibition focuses on authentic native plant species, aiming to preserve environmental identity, protect natural resources from extinction, and highlight their importance in supporting the ecosystem. It also serves as a platform to showcase the deep connection between Emiratis and their natural environment.
