Sharjah24: As part of the 54th National Day celebrations, the Sharjah Department of Public Works (SDPW) organised a series of specialised artistic workshops that combined traditional crafts with contemporary arts.

Heritage crafts meet modern creativity

The programme featured a workshop on crafting traditional palm-frond handbags, showcasing the aesthetics of authentic Emirati craftsmanship. Employees also delved into resin art, a contemporary creative technique that blends innovation with modern design.

Marine-themed accessories and terrarium art

The workshops sparked strong interest in marine-inspired accessory making, drawing inspiration from the local coastal environment. Participants also valued terrarium art, which blends nature and design within innovative glass structures.

A bridge between tradition and innovation

The accompanying activities featured specialised workshops in macramé and marine-themed accessory design. These sessions offered employees valuable opportunities to deepen their connection to local heritage while developing their artistic skills.

The initiative went beyond basic creative activities; it served as a cultural bridge between tradition and modernity. It enabled employees to display their artistic talents, strengthen their connection to Emirati heritage, and explore new artistic directions that combine authenticity with innovation.
