SHarjah24: The Emirate of Sharjah concluded its spectacular celebrations of the 54th Eid Al Etihad (Union Day) of the United Arab Emirates, following an extensive program running from 19 November to 2 December across all cities and regions of the Emirate. More than 250 heritage, cultural, and community activities were organized, attracting ove 233 thousand participants and celebrants, including citizens, residents, and visitors. The 14-day celebrations reflected the spirit of union, social cohesion, and pride in Emirati identity and heritage.

Sharjah Illuminated in National Colours for Eid Al Etihad

Sharjah shone in national colors, with UAE flags displayed on facades and public buildings, while plazas were illuminated with visual light shows transforming the celebration sites into spectacular visual scenes. Families and all segments of society participated extensively, celebrating the most cherished occasion for every Emirati and anyone who considers the UAE their homeland.

This year’s celebrations continued a journey spanning more than five decades, with Sharjah presenting a unique and comprehensive model for Eid Al Etihad (Union Day), based on community participation, integrated government efforts, and highlighting Emirati heritage while connecting it with education, sustainability, and culture. Events were distributed across the Emirate, including parks, gardens, and heritage sites.

A unifying national message

On this occasion, Khalid Jasim Al Midfa, Chairman of the Sharjah Committee for Eid Al Etihad (Union Day) Celebrations, extended his highest congratulations to His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, President of the UAE, and to Their Highnesses, Members of the Supreme Council and Rulers of the Emirates, appreciating the leadership’s vision that strengthened the concept of national identity and made Eid Al Etihad (Union Day) a prominent platform to enhance loyalty and belonging.

He also expressed his gratitude to His Highness Sheikh Sultan bin Mohamed bin Sultan Al Qasimi, Crown Prince, Deputy Ruler of Sharjah, and Chairman of the Executive Council, for his continuous guidance and support, which contributed to the success of the 54th Eid Al Etihad (Union Day) celebrations. He emphasised that the integrated work system among all entities was a key factor in this year’s successful celebrations.

Khalid Jasim Al Midfa stated that these celebrations align with the UAE’s vision to strengthen national identity and build a cohesive society, reinforcing the values that underpin the journey of union toward a brighter future for coming generations.

He praised the efforts of the organising teams, committees, and volunteers who worked tirelessly to ensure smooth implementation, highlighting that this cooperation was one of the most important reasons behind the program’s success this year.

Comprehensive activities across Sharjah

Events this year were held across Sharjah city, Al Batayeh, Al Dhaid, Kalba, Dibba Al Hisn, Khorfakkan, Wadi Al Helo, Al Madam, Al Hamriyah, Al Khrous Suburb, Mleiha, and Mughaider Suburb, with each area hosting a distinctive program combining heritage celebrations, artistic performances, educational and environmental workshops, sports activities, and various parades that reflected the diversity and richness of Emirati society.

The four main parks—Al Siyouh Family Park, Kshisha Park, Sharjah National Park, and Al Layyah Canal—served as key celebration hubs, featuring miniature national villages hosting sustainability workshops, youth councils, theatrical performances, family enterprise booths, children’s programs, and entertainment activities throughout the celebration days.

Schools, students, and youth initiatives participated to enhance national belonging and instill identity values among younger generations, in line with the spirit of the “Year of Community.”

The celebrations also included the national anthem at all main sites, patriotic songs expressing pride and identity, as well as sustainable activities using recyclable materials to ensure a positive impact on society and the environment.

Community values at the heart of the celebrations

The program clearly reflected the “Year of Community” initiative, with interactive activities and dialogue sessions promoting social values such as cohesion, volunteering, and responsibility, alongside educational spaces for children to raise awareness of the environment, heritage, and sustainability.

The events saw extensive participation from productive families, craftsmen, local talents, and government institutions, totaling more than 20 entities, highlighting engagement and integration across all community components.

A forward-looking vision for national celebrations

Khalid Jasim Al Midfa, Chairman of the Sharjah Committee for Eid Al Etihad (Union Day) Celebrations, stated at the conclusion of the festivities that Eid Al Etihad (Union Day) represents a key occasion to strengthen Emirati identity among generations. He noted that the committee will continue developing programs for upcoming years, building on this year’s experiences to enhance the community, educational, and heritage aspects of the celebrations in alignment with the UAE’s vision and future goals.

He emphasised that the celebrations showcased the evolution of Eid Al Etihad (Union Day) over the decades, from its simplicity in the 1970s to its current diversity and creativity, reflecting the UAE’s journey and society.

Al Midfa added that Sharjah has proven this year to be a national model for celebrating the spirit of union through joint efforts, broad community participation, and diverse programs conveying a clear national message that the UAE’s strength lies in its unity, heritage, and social cohesion.
