UOS College of Computing and Informatics Council convenes

Sharjah24: The Advisory Council of the College of Computing and Informatics at the University of Sharjah (UOS) held its first meeting of the College's Advisory Council for the 2025/2026 academic year. The meeting was attended by His Excellency Sheikh Fahim bin Sultan bin Khalid Al Qasimi, Chairman of the Department of Government Relations in Sharjah and Chairman of the Council; and His Excellency Professor Dr Issam Al Din Ajami, Chancellor of UOS.

Supporting scientific research

The meeting focused on developing computing and informatics programmes and strengthening cooperation with the technology and industry sectors. This collaboration aims to support scientific research and enhance the readiness of students and graduates to keep pace with the rapid advancements in technology.

Keeping up with the latest technologies

In his opening remarks, the University Chancellor welcomed His Excellency Sheikh Fahim bin Sultan bin Khalid Al Qasimi and all the distinguished members of the Advisory Council, who represent a select group of leading figures in the business and technology community. He commended their vital role in supporting the economic and technological development of the UAE and thanked them for accepting the invitation.

Ajami explained that the University administration looks forward to their valuable contributions and constructive proposals to guide academic policies and update curricula in line with the latest technological trends and the requirements of modern industry. His Excellency the Chancellor emphasised the crucial role of the Council in supporting the development of educational programmes and preparing graduates who meet the demands of the labour market. Ajami explained that the College has expanded its specialisations to include artificial intelligence, cybersecurity, and data science, in addition to establishing a specialised centre for AI applications to enhance technological integration within the university.

Integrating technology across various disciplines

His Excellency Sheikh Fahim bin Sultan bin Khalid Al Qasimi chaired the Council's deliberations, affirming that the College continues to achieve remarkable progress thanks to the quality of its programmes and the integration of technology across various disciplines. He pointed to current challenges, most notably promoting interdisciplinary work and raising awareness within the government and economic sectors about the growing role of technology. He stressed the importance of strengthening partnerships with the private sector to ensure that graduates' skills align with the rapidly evolving labor market.

Integrating innovation and practical training into the educational system

For his part, Professor Abbes Amira, Dean of the College of Computing and Informatics presented an overview of the College's programmes and its multidisciplinary specialisations, emphasising the importance of integrating innovation and practical training into the educational system to enhance student preparedness. He reviewed programme statistics and the new outcomes assessment system, as well as the College's plan to attract distinguished faculty members and organise high-quality events and conferences. He explained that the College is working to develop students' skills and measure performance according to clear indicators in collaboration with the industrial sector.

The Council meeting was attended by Dr Salah Taher Al Hajj, Vice Chancellor for Community Affairs, and the heads of the academic departments at the college. The council includes a select group of leaders and experts from various sectors, namely: His Excellency Abdullah Hashim, member of the Advisory Board of Nets Global Communications Company; His Excellency Fahad Al Hasawi, CEO of Emirates Integrated Telecommunications Company (du); His Excellency Dr Gregorios Fragos, Chairman of the Sharjah Cyber Security Centre; Her Excellency Dr Ahoud Ali Shehail, Director General of the Ajman Digital Department; His Excellency Abdullah Al Zarouni, Vice President of Technology Development and Transfer at Emirates Global Aluminium; His Excellency Amin Al Zarouni, CEO of Sahab Smart Solutions; His Excellency Sabri Ali Mohammed Al Sheikhli Al Breiki, Chief Information Officer at Etisalat UAE; His Excellency Hemantjolkha, Chief Technology Officer at Emirates NBD; His Excellency Eng. Wael Morsi Abdel Aziz, Director of Education for the Gulf Region at Amazon Web Services; His Excellency Dr  Waleed Rashid Al Bakr, Head of Strategy and Corporate Excellence at the National Emergency, Crisis and Disaster Management Authority; and His Excellency Chu Zixuan, Dahawatik, Director General for the United Arab Emirates. His Excellency Professor Dr Habib Zaidi, Head of the Laboratory of Positron Emission Tomography and Neuroimaging, Geneva University Hospital, Her Excellency Mira Khalifa Al Muqarrab, Director of the Information Technology Department at the Sharjah Consultative Council, Her Excellency Dr Samira Abdul Rahman Abdul Aziz Al Mulla, Ministry of Education, and Omar Mohammed Al Awadhi, Founder and CEO of Technologies LLC.
