Sharjah 24: Sandooq Al Watan, in collaboration with the University of Sharjah (UOS), has launched the National Identity Club as part of joint efforts to promote the concept of national identity among students, foster the values of belonging and loyalty to the nation, and encourage students to develop innovative projects and initiatives that serve the community and preserve the heritage and culture of the United Arab Emirates.

This collaboration comes within the framework of Sandooq Al Watan’s initiative to establish platforms across educational institutions that promote national identity and the Arabic language while fostering a culture of volunteerism and social responsibility among youth. The initiative aligns with the UAE’s vision of preparing future generations to contribute to the country’s development and excellence.

The event witnessed the launch of “Sama” and “Sumo,” two AI-generated characters designed to promote awareness of national identity. This innovative step aims to leverage modern technologies to promote awareness of national identity and enhance communication with students through interactive approaches. In addition, the “Gift of the Nation” initiative was launched to reinforce the values of giving and community belonging.

The event also included discussions on hosting the annual meeting of National Identity Pioneers Clubs, contributing to the exchange of expertise and experiences among educational institutions participating in the initiative. In addition, an advisory meeting for National Identity Pioneers was held to introduce the initiative’s objectives, outline the mechanisms for implementing programmes and student activities related to national identity, and highlight the role of students in promoting a culture of volunteerism and community service.

Dr Amina Almarzooqi, Vice Chancellor for Student Affairs, expressed her pride in the university’s participation in this initiative, describing the National Identity Club as a platform that empowers students to engage in community and national initiatives while promoting the values of Emirati identity. She highlighted the university’s commitment to providing an environment that fosters creativity, innovation, and volunteerism, as well as supporting programs that contribute to students’ personal development, enabling them to become active contributors to the nation and society.

For his part, His Excellency Yasser Al Algergawi, Director General of Sandooq Al Watan, said that the launch of the National Identity Club at University of Sharjah reflects the UAE’s vision of empowering youth to preserve Emirati identity, while encouraging them to take initiative and play active leadership roles within their academic and community environments.

He affirmed that these clubs serve as platforms for student engagement within university campuses and local communities and stressed that investing in empowering youth and enhancing their awareness of national identity and belonging to their homeland—its history, heritage, values, and language—is an investment in the present and future of the UAE.

He explained that preserving national identity and its components, rooted in religion, the Arabic language, and the historical, cultural, and social heritage of the United Arab Emirates, and passing them on to future generations, is one of the key objectives of Sandooq Al Watan, particularly among university students. This is achieved through such clubs, which offer activities, interactive workshops, dialogue sessions, and creative programmes that highlight the values of Emirati national identity, as well as its strengthening belonging to the nation and its wise leadership. He also praised the University of Sharjah for its cooperation and ongoing efforts to ensure that national identity remains a fundamental pillar in shaping the nation’s future leaders.
