This focus aims to showcase the advanced role played by government institutions in promoting a culture of volunteering across the UAE and enhancing their institutional contributions to community service through distinctive programmes and initiatives that reflect their commitment to social responsibility.
Government entities are defined as institutions established under decrees or laws issued by the federal or local governments. They are considered key partners in the voluntary work ecosystem due to the support and empowerment they provide to volunteers and community programmes.
The Sharjah Award for Voluntary Work offers government entities the opportunity to compete for a set of core awards that reflect their role in strengthening institutional volunteering. These include: Best Entity Creating Volunteering Opportunities, for organisations that innovate in generating diverse volunteering roles; Best Entity Supporting Voluntary Work, for institutions that provide tangible support to volunteer initiatives; Best Voluntary Initiative, for outstanding projects with a clear positive impact; Best Neighbourhood in Voluntary Work, for neighbourhoods implementing effective community initiatives. These awards aim to highlight the efforts of government entities and encourage them to adopt innovative initiatives that benefit society and demonstrate their commitment to social responsibility.
Soaad Al Shamsi, Executive Director of the Award, affirmed that each cycle of the award seeks to highlight the fundamental categories that underpin voluntary work in the UAE, including the government entities category, recognising its central role in supporting volunteer initiatives.
She encouraged all government institutions to participate and submit their best voluntary projects for consideration, noting that the award applies clear and transparent criteria for evaluating government entries to ensure outstanding contributions are recognised for their community impact and role in promoting volunteerism.
The government entities category is one of the most significant targeted by the award, in recognition of its role as a driving force and a primary source for generating volunteering opportunities.
Al Shamsi added that the award will continue to spotlight other eligible categories in due course, ensuring that each category’s exceptional efforts are highlighted and encouraged through fair competition.
