Sharjah24: The Sharjah Department of Awqaf has introduced the Mayan Mobile Water Initiative, a new programme under the Water Endowment Project designed to provide chilled drinking water to workers at construction sites across the emirate. The initiative underscores the department’s humanitarian and endowment-driven mission to support vulnerable groups and enhance their quality of life.

Partnered with the Sharjah Volunteer Centre, the initiative involves volunteers distributing water directly at work sites via a fully equipped and sanitised mobile vehicle. Operating daily except Fridays, the service covers various construction zones including Al Suyouh, Al Hoshi, Al Tai, Tilal City, Al Zahia, and Aljada. The initiative distributes approximately 4,000 litres of chilled water each day across morning and evening shifts.

A sustainable endowment serving community needs

His Excellency Talib Al Marri, Director General of the Department of Awqaf, stated that the department continues to introduce innovative initiatives inspired by its core endowment projects, with the Water Endowment being among the most impactful.
He emphasised that the initiative meets community needs and reinforces values of generosity and social solidarity, while supporting labourers by ensuring humane and safe conditions during long working hours, especially in hot weather.

Volunteers play a key role in the initiative’s success

Al Marri praised the essential role of volunteers, stressing that volunteer efforts form a fundamental part of endowment and community programmes and strengthen their long-term humanitarian impacts across the emirate.
