Fire in India’s Goa State kills at least 23

Sharjah 24 – WAM: At least 23 people, including tourists, died in a fire at a popular entertainment facility in India’s Goa state, according to the state’s chief minister on Sunday. The blaze erupted shortly after midnight in Arpora in North Goa.

Majority of victims were staff

Goa Chief Minister Pramod Sawant stated that most of the victims were members of the facility’s kitchen staff, in addition to three to four tourists.

Cause linked to gas cylinder explosion

Authorities confirmed that the fire was triggered by a gas cylinder explosion. The blaze has been fully extinguished, and all bodies have been recovered.

Government to launch inquiry

Sawant said the state government will launch an investigation to determine the precise cause of the fire and assess whether fire safety standards and building regulations were properly followed.
