The opening was attended by Sheikh Saeed bin Saqr Al Qasimi, Deputy Head of Sharjah Ruler’s Office in Khorfakkan; Sheikh Dr Khalid bin Humaid Al Qasimi, Chairman of the Sharjah Sports Council; and Sheikha Shamsa bint Hasher Al Maktoum, Chairperson of the Women’s Sports Committee and Board Member of the UAE Volleyball Federation, with the participation of 92 male and female players representing 12 countries.
Abdulmalik Mohammed Jani, Chairman of the Organising Committee of the Air Badminton World Cup, told “Sharjah 24” that hosting such a large number of participants in the first global edition reflects the UAE’s capability and stature in organising major international sporting events.
He concluded by emphasising that Khorfakkan has become a global platform, attracting leading sporting events and calling on the public to visit Khorfakkan and enjoy the championship atmosphere, which continues until 14 December.
