His Highness Sheikh Dr Sultan bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Sharjah, said in a phone interview on the programme “Direct Line” broadcast by Sharjah Broadcasting Authority, with His Excellency Mohamed Hassan Khalaf, Director General of Sharjah Broadcasting Authority:
“Some people say ‘bi’r’ while others say ‘tuwa’. The correct term, as mentioned in the Holy Quran, is ‘Tuwa’. In Surah Taha, Allah says in verse 12: ‘Indeed, I am your Lord, so remove your sandals. Indeed, you are in the sacred valley of Tuwa’. Likewise, in Surah An-Nazi‘at, verse 16: ‘When his Lord called him in the sacred valley of Tuwa’.
The sacred valley of Tuwa is where Prophet Musa, peace be upon him, grew up. When the valley floods, people dig wells to store the water for use instead of letting it flow to distant areas. When these wells are dug, they create a “neck” to prevent the well from being buried, giving it a folded shape. They place a “tiyah” on the hard ground – the tiyah being what supports the clay.”
His Highness the Ruler of Sharjah added: “We urge people to be guided by the Holy Quran and to learn the words mentioned within it. Unfortunately, there is a group of people who read the Quran but do not understand the noble meanings of the verses and words they recite. Some interpret the words with a meaning other than what is intended in the sacred verses, and this is a serious matter. Others explain the meanings of the verses to people while adding information from their imagination, which is not true.
Interpretation of the Quran based on personal conjecture is considered a transgression. The Quran should only be interpreted by someone well-versed in the Arabic language, grammar, and morphology, who adheres to the information and meanings stated in the Quran, and does not interpret or add from their own imagination or personal conception. It is regrettable that we find many contemporary interpreters differing on some details.”
His Highness Sheikh Dr Sultan bin Mohammed Al Qasimi continued: “We urge people to learn the Arabic language and reflect on the meanings of the Holy Quran. I always tell people to return to the Quran. By God’s grace, I often send papers to my friends explaining the insights Allah grants us. Every vessel overflows with what it contains.
Someone once asked why Surah Al-Fatiha was placed at the beginning of the Quran, and I was saddened that many did not know the answer. Surah Al-Fatiha contains the meanings of the entire Quran. It begins with the Basmala – ‘In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful’ – which starts with the letter Ba’, the beginning of life. When a person starts reading Al-Fatiha and says ‘Bismillah’, they feel awe at the greatness of mentioning Allah’s name. God then reassures the reader’s heart through ‘the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful’. The meanings of the entire Quran return to what is encompassed in Surah Al-Fatiha, demonstrating the greatness, power, ability, and vast mercy of the Lord of the Worlds.”
His Highness continued: “Sit and read the Quran, reflect on its meanings, and set aside a daily time for recitation. Let this time be between the call to prayer (Adhan) and the commencement of the prayer (Iqama). Go to the mosque early, be among the first, and sit to read the Quran. How great it is to go to the mosque before Fajr prayer and read the Quran.
Allah Almighty says in verse 78 of Surah Al-Isra: ‘Establish prayer at the decline of the sun [from its meridian] until the darkness of the night and [also] the Qur'an of dawn. Indeed, the recitation of dawn is ever witnessed.’ When a person reads the Quran, the angels are beside them, witnessing.
We tell every Muslim: ‘Fear Allah.’ You would rush if you were told that a sheikh or director is coming. How much more should you hurry when given an appointment with Allah, the Lord of the Worlds, to pray in His house and recite the Quran? Rush, even if your feet are shackled.”
His Highness Sheikh Dr Sultan bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Sharjah, concluded his address saying:
“We call upon our loved ones, friends, and all with pure hearts, and we tell each of them: ‘Begin your day – whose outcomes you do not know – with Fajr prayer in congregation.’ Every head of a household who leaves his home in the morning, leaving his children and family behind and asking Allah Almighty to protect them and himself, must first fear Allah.
Daily incidents occur, and the time of death is appointed by Allah, unknown to humans. Allah takes whom He wills among His servants. Whoever seeks success in all worldly matters and in the Hereafter must fear Allah and maintain their prayers in congregation at the mosque. We urge people to commit to and consistently perform Fajr prayer in congregation, and, God willing, calamities, problems, illnesses, and all that is harmful will be removed from them.”
