Napoli defeat Lazio to temporarily climb to Serie A Second place

Sharjah24: Napoli continued their strong run in Serie A with a 2–0 away win over Lazio in Matchweek 18 on Sunday, moving into second place in the standings.

Napoli broke the deadlock in the 13th minute when Leonardo Spinazzola volleyed home an unmarked cross from Matteo Politano. The visitors doubled their lead in the 32nd minute, Amir Rrahmani heading in from a Politano free-kick, putting the match firmly under their control.

Breaking the Lazio curse

The win ended Napoli’s six-match winless run against Lazio across all competitions. Their previous victory over Lazio dated back to September 2022, during the season in which Napoli went on to lift the Serie A title.

Lazio struggle at home

Despite playing in front of their supporters, Lazio failed to register a single shot on target throughout the match. Their difficulties were compounded when Dutch forward Taty Castellanos was sent off in the 81st minute after receiving a second yellow card. A late altercation also saw Adam Marušić and Napoli substitute Pasquale Mazzocchi dismissed.
