Sharjah24 -WAM: A powerful 6.7-magnitude earthquake struck off the southern islands of the Philippines on Wednesday, according to the US Geological Survey. No immediate reports of casualties or damage were recorded.

Epicentre and depth

The USGS said the quake occurred at a depth of 10 kilometres (6 miles), with its epicentre located about 68 kilometres (42 miles) east of Baculin, a village in the southern town of Hinatuan in Surigao del Sur province.

Local assessment and warnings

Meanwhile, the Philippine seismology agency Phivolcs measured the tremor at 6.4 magnitude and a depth of 23 kilometres, warning residents of the possibility of damage and potential aftershocks following the earthquake.
