Multiple fires burning simultaneously

Dozens of fires are currently burning, with emergency warnings covering half the state. New fires have broken out near Horsham, Ouyen, Avalon, and Skipton, while major fires continue near Longwood, Mount Lawson State Park near Walwa, the alpine region, and Far East Gippsland.

Challenges for firefighters

A shift in wind direction is making firefighting efforts more difficult, and authorities caution that conditions could worsen further, according to David Nugent, spokesperson for the state control centre.
