ALECGS concludes the 8th Arabic Language Conference

Sharjah 24: The Arabic Language Educational Sharjah Centre for Gulf States (ALECGS), in cooperation with the Ministry of Education, concluded its 8th International Arabic Language Conference in Sharjah, titled "Teaching and Learning Arabic: Looking Towards the Future: Requirements, Opportunities, and Challenges," under the slogan "We Create with Arabic."

The conference was held at ALECGS headquarters in University City, Sharjah. The closing ceremony followed the second day of the conference, which featured 12 in-person seminars.

 

40 research papers

 

Seminars included 40 research papers on various topics, attended by a large number of specialists. The papers addressed numerous research studies and field research that contribute to the development of Arabic language teaching and learning. Among the most important sessions held on the second day was a seminar on "Employing Modern Technologies in Teaching and Learning Arabic." Among the most important research papers presented were: a paper titled: "Teaching Values Between Challenges and Strategic Visions in the Age of Artificial Intelligence: Teaching Arabic to Non-Native Speakers as a Model"; a paper titled: "The Role of Augmented Reality Technology in Developing Linguistic Achievement and Reducing the Cognitive Load in Grammar Lessons for Secondary School Students"; and a paper titled: "The Impact of Employing Artificial Intelligence Applications During Reading Instruction on Developing Some Reading Comprehension Skills Among Third-Cycle Students."

 

Symposiums

 

A symposium on: Best Practices and Experiences: Among the most important research papers presented were: a paper titled: "The Experience of the Specialised Institute for Vocational Training of Teachers in the Sultanate of Oman in Preparing Arabic Language Teachers"; a paper titled: "A Project to Develop a Comprehensive Reference Framework and Reading Scale to Advance the Arabic Language: The 'Dhad Scale for Measuring Text Difficulty and Students' Reading Proficiency Level in the Arab World"; and a paper titled: "Alif Pathways."

 

A symposium on: Strategies for teaching Arabic and its programmes: Key research presented at the conference included: a study titled "Employing the Theory of Triliteral Verbs in the Educational Process," a proposed programme utilising musical theatre to develop listening and speaking skills in non-Arabic speaking children, and a study titled "The Importance of Employing the Collaborative Reading Strategy for Primary School Students in the Sultanate of Oman from the Teachers' Perspective."

 

Training workshops

 

Training workshops were also held, titled "The 'Enjoyment in an Hour' Framework: The Reference Framework for Teaching Arabic to Speakers of Other Languages ('Enjoyment') from Concept to Practice."

 

It is worth noting that the conference is one of the approved programmes of ALECGS for the 2025/2026 academic year. It aims to explore and discuss issues, studies, research, best practices, and scientific and practical experiences related to the reality of teaching and learning Arabic, to highlight individual and institutional efforts and their role in developing Arabic language teaching and learning, and to review the latest developments.

 

The conference also highlighted innovative initiatives, successful reports, and experiences, aiming to raise awareness, promote shared responsibility, and emphasise the need for coordination among institutions involved in teaching and learning Arabic. It sought to leverage global experiences and expertise to develop Arabic language education while considering the unique characteristics of the language. Furthermore, it addressed the contemporary challenges facing the future of Arabic language teaching and learning.

 

Conference recommendations

 

At the conclusion of the second day of the conference, Dr Issa Saleh Al Hammadi, Conference Chairman and Director of ALECGS, announced the conference recommendations. These included a message of gratitude to the conference patron, His Highness Sheikh Dr Sultan bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Sharjah, for his generous support and patronage. He then read the recommendations put forward by the conference participants.

 

Following this, the organising committees and all participants and speakers were honoured, thus concluding the eighth edition of the Sharjah International Arabic Language Conference.

 

Participants’ feedback

 

Participant feedback was gathered through a survey, and attendees expressed their opinion that the conference provided an exceptional opportunity to learn about experiences, ideas, and research in the field of education. It also included numerous applied and practical studies that address the requirements of education. The Arabic language and its learning in the current circumstances is a pioneering achievement for the advancement of the Arabic language and a radiant beacon with its diverse scientific tables, united in their visions for the advancement and future prospects of the Arabic language globally. It also discussed vital issues related to education, interaction with contemporary issues, and presenting solutions to them through experiences from different countries.

 

Participants praised the precise organisation and smooth and ideal supervision. It was distinguished by the participation of specialists from experts and researchers in the field of teaching and learning the Arabic language at the regional and international levels, the comprehensiveness of the topics addressed by the researchers, and highlighting the effectiveness of distance education through the conference itself and the conference publications, which are a reference for specialists in the Arabic language and those interested. It also presented practical solutions for dealing with technology in education through several research papers that addressed this aspect.
