The event formed part of the municipality’s efforts to reinforce social cohesion and to pass on inherited customs and popular traditions to younger generations, fostering a sense of belonging and national identity as the holy month of Ramadan approaches.
The programme included the distribution of sweets to children and women, children’s games and competitions, a photography corner, a henna station, and food carts serving traditional Emirati dishes. These activities created a joyful atmosphere that was warmly welcomed by families, particularly children and mothers who took part in the celebrations.
Mubarak Rashid Al Shamsi, Director of Al Hamriyah Municipality, said the municipality is keen to revive Haq Al Laila each year as a cultural event closely linked to the UAE’s heritage. He noted that such initiatives help connect younger generations with the values and traditions of the past.
In parallel, the municipality organised an internal celebration for its employees, featuring Haq Al Laila distributions to enhance workplace wellbeing and encourage staff participation in authentic heritage activities.
