University of Sharjah launches Alumni Football Cup

Sharjah 24: The University of Sharjah has kicked off the Alumni Association Football Cup, organised by the Alumni Association in collaboration with the Sports Activities Section at the Deanship of Student Affairs. The tournament brings together 13 teams of graduates from various colleges and disciplines, alongside a team representing faculty members.

Opening ceremony at university sports Stadium

The opening ceremony was attended by His Excellency Professor Esameldin Agamy, Chancellor of the University of Sharjah, who watched the first matches get under way at the University’s sports stadium.

Chancellor highlights importance of alumni

In his opening remarks, Prof. Agamy stressed that alumni are a vital extension of the University’s mission in society. He underlined the University’s commitment to maintaining strong ties with its graduates by offering high-quality academic, professional, cultural, sporting, and social services. He noted that the University’s role extends beyond graduation, strengthening alumni loyalty and supporting community development.

Call for sportsmanship and fair play

Prof. Eid Kanaan, Dean of Student Affairs, welcomed the participating teams and urged players to uphold the values of sportsmanship and fair competition throughout the tournament. He added that the University of Sharjah’s integrated sports infrastructure enables it to continuously engage graduates in its events and initiatives.

Strengthening alumni engagement

Dr Amal Al Ali, Director of the Alumni Association Office, highlighted that the championship forms part of the Association’s ongoing efforts to build sustained engagement with graduates. She explained that the event provides an opportunity for alumni to reconnect with campus life and learn more about the expanding range of services and programmes available to them.

Strong attendance from officials and community

The opening ceremony was attended by H.E. Mohammed Al Hammadi, member of the Sharjah Consultative Council and a University of Sharjah alumnus, along with several vice chancellors, college deans, local community members, and players’ families, creating a lively and festive atmosphere.
