Sharjah 24: The Khorfakkan Club for the Disabled marked the mid-Shaban occasion of Haq Al Laila with a community gathering that brought together children with disabilities, their families, and other children in a setting rich with Emirati tradition. The event, held the evening before last under the theme “The Joy of Heritage and Identity”, recreated the spirit of the occasion through familiar sights, sounds and customs that remain close to local memory.

Traditional games

Children took part in a series of shared activities, such as traditional performances and simple competitions, while popular sweets, small gifts, and toys were handed out throughout the evening. The atmosphere was one of ease and celebration, allowing families to enjoy the occasion while introducing younger participants to customs associated with Haq Al Laila, one of the UAE’s most cherished community traditions.

Social impact

Abdullah Saleh Mohammed Al Naqbi, Chairman of the Board of Directors of Khorfakkan Club for the Disabled, said the club places strong emphasis on activities that strengthen children’s connection to their culture while supporting their emotional and social development. He noted that such events help children feel included and valued, encouraging them to take part confidently in community life.

Inclusive programmes at the heart of the club’s work

Al Naqbi added that the event forms part of the club’s ongoing cultural and social calendar, which focuses on bringing children with disabilities together with their peers through shared experiences. These programs, he said, help build mutual understanding and reinforce the values of acceptance and inclusion at an early age.

Meaningful initiatives

Umm Mohammed, the mother of a child with a disability and a member of the club, praised the range of cultural, educational and recreational activities organised throughout the year. She said such programmes offer children an opportunity to learn, enjoy themselves and interact naturally with others, while also helping them gain confidence and develop communication skills in a supportive environment.

Staff share in the celebration

The celebration extended beyond the children and their families. Employees from various sections gathered inside the club to celebrate Haq Al Laila and exchange traditional gifts. The gesture added a warm, familiar touch to the workday and reflected the close-knit spirit among the staff.

Ramadan plans underway

Looking forward to the holy month of Ramadan, the club is preparing a program of educational, recreational, and sports activities for children and staff. The initiatives aim to foster social interaction, uphold a vibrant community spirit, and generate opportunities for collective participation throughout the month.
