Sharjah24: Children representing the Arab world in the Arab Parliament for the Child (APC) experienced the “Glow of Authenticity” during a special cultural visit to the 23rd Sharjah Heritage Days, organised by the Sharjah Institute for Heritage in Sharjah.

The visit, held under the festival’s theme “Glow of Authenticity”, brought together young parliament members from 16 Arab countries as part of the third sitting of the Parliament’s fourth term, creating a vivid encounter between Arab childhood and the depth and richness of traditional heritage.

Immersed in the Emirati past

The children toured the heritage village, where they explored the details of traditional Emirati life and discovered a range of historical environments that reflect deeply rooted social and cultural values. These settings showcased the region’s history and the ways of life that have shaped Emirati identity across generations.

They also attended guided briefings delivered by specialists on folk heritage, traditional crafts, and customs and traditions linked to social occasions.

Music, arts and shared traditions

The visit saw lively engagement from the children, who interacted enthusiastically with traditional musical and singing performances staged by participating folk groups. The diverse artistic shows highlighted different forms of traditional arts, creating an atmosphere of joy and energy while reflecting the rich cultural landscape that Sharjah Heritage Days hosts through local, Arab and international participation.

Members of the Arab Parliament for the Child also moved between various pavilions, exploring the diversity of heritage displays and contributions from several countries. This gave them the opportunity to recognise both shared cultural bonds between peoples and the distinctive characteristics and human symbolism of each tradition.

Learning through experience

The children took part in several accompanying activities and enjoyed live demonstrations and popular dishes, creating a well-rounded experience that combined learning with enjoyment.

As part of the programme, they visited the Arab Parliament for the Child’s pavilion, marking its second participation in the major cultural and heritage event. There, they joined competitions and engaged with traditional games organised by the Parliament in an atmosphere filled with excitement and happiness, reflecting the vibrant spirit of Arab childhood and its positive connection to cultural heritage.

Strengthening identity and belonging

Children from across the Arab world expressed great happiness with the experience, which allowed them to explore different aspects of Emirati heritage while also discovering the traditions presented by participating countries. The visit illustrated the unity and diversity of Arab cultural heritage and strengthened feelings of belonging and closeness among the children.

Official statement

Commenting on the occasion, His Excellency Ayman Othman Al Barout, Secretary-General of the Arab Parliament for the Child, said the Parliament’s participation in Sharjah Heritage Days reflects its belief in the importance of connecting children with their Arab cultural and historical identity and introducing them to leading models in heritage preservation and safeguarding.

He noted that Sharjah presents a global example in caring for human heritage and passing it on to new generations through interactive and contemporary approaches.

Al Barout added that the children’s joy and active participation demonstrate the success of the experience in enhancing their cultural awareness and reinforcing pride in their identity, while encouraging openness to the cultures of fellow Arab nations.

He emphasised that such initiatives support the Parliament’s mission to build an informed and cultured generation capable of understanding its past, engaging with its present, and shaping its future with a shared Arab spirit.
