Sharjah 24: As part of the third session of the fourth term of the Arab Parliament for the Child, members of parliament from 16 Arab countries conducted their first field visit to Sharjah. The visit included a wheat farm in the Mleiha region, a pioneering agricultural project that embodies Sharjah’s vision for achieving sustainability and food security, and which is affiliated with the Department of Agriculture and Livestock.

The visit aimed to introduce members of the APC to leading experiences in Sharjah and to connect children's parliamentary work with educational, cultural, and developmental aspects.

Sustainable agricultural initiative

The children toured the farm and its modern facilities, receiving detailed explanations from specialists about the stages of wheat cultivation, from soil preparation and irrigation to fertilization, harvesting, and storage, all according to the latest agricultural practices. They also learned about the role of modern technologies in improving the quality of agricultural production and preserving natural resources.

Members of the Arab Parliament for the Child closely observed wheat fields and learned about the efforts of the Sharjah Department of Agriculture and Livestock to develop sustainable agricultural projects and achieve self-sufficiency in strategic crops. This strengthens the food security system in the emirate and the country, in accordance with the vision and directives of His Highness Sheikh Dr Sultan bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Sharjah.

In a statement on this occasion, Ayman Othman Al Barout, Secretary-General of the APC, said: “This visit reflects the parliament's commitment to providing its members with practical educational experiences that contribute to instilling the concepts of sustainability and food security, and to introducing children to successful Arab models in the fields of agriculture and development.”
