UAE reaffirms solidarity with Kuwait over maritime sovereignty

Sharjah 24 – WAM: The United Arab Emirates has reaffirmed its full and unwavering solidarity with the State of Kuwait, supporting all measures taken to safeguard Kuwait’s legitimate rights and interests and opposing any infringement on its sovereignty or national interests.

Concern over Iraq’s submission to the UN

The UAE expressed deep concern regarding the list of coordinates and map submitted by the Republic of Iraq to the United Nations, highlighting potential implications for Kuwait’s maritime rights, including areas such as Fisht Al-Eid and Fisht Al-Eij.

Call for responsible action

In a statement, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MoFA) stressed the importance of Iraq considering the fraternal and historic ties between the two nations and their peoples.

Upholding international law

The Ministry urged that the matter be addressed responsibly, in line with international law, the United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea (UNCLOS) of 1982, and existing bilateral agreements, memoranda of understanding, and understandings.

Encouraging dialogue and stability

The Ministry further emphasised that any related issues should be resolved through constructive dialogue and diplomatic channels to strengthen regional security and stability.
