Sheikh Al Dobbi explained that this Holy Quran clearly defines the central purpose of fasting: attaining piety, which means placing a spiritual barrier between oneself and the displeasure of Allah through obedience and avoidance of sin. He noted that fasting is among the greatest acts of worship that nurture this awareness, as the fasting person abstains from lawful desires purely for the sake of Allah—even when able to fulfil them in private—thereby strengthening inner consciousness of divine accountability.
He stressed that piety is not merely a theoretical concept but a practical way of life reflected in a fasting person’s morals and interactions. True fasting discourages backbiting, gossip, and bad conduct, while encouraging patience, self-restraint, and good character.
Sheikh Al Dobbi emphasised that complete piety is reflected when a Muslim emerges from Ramadan spiritually improved—strengthening worship, refining speech, disciplining actions, and increasing commitment to both obligatory and voluntary acts of worship. He described Ramadan as an annual opportunity for self-reflection, spiritual renewal, and realignment of priorities toward obedience and righteousness.
He added that fasting nurtures a sense of responsibility toward others and reinforces compassion and social solidarity. By experiencing hunger, fasting individuals become more aware of the struggles of the less fortunate, motivating acts of charity, generosity, and community support—key manifestations of practical piety.
Sheikh Al Dobbi also highlighted that fasting instils sincerity, as it is a hidden act of worship known only to Allah, making it one of the purest expressions of devotion. He encouraged Muslims to make the most of the blessed month through increased worship, Qur’an recitation, maintaining family ties, and sincere self-evaluation.
