Sharjah municipalities assessed for rainy weather preparedness

Sharjah 24: The Sharjah Department of Municipalities Affairs conducted an inspection tour of all municipalities in the Emirate of Sharjah to assess their preparedness for the expected rainy weather, commending their readiness in emergency planning, drainage efficiency, equipment availability, and deployment of field teams in high-risk areas.

Reviewing emergency plans and infrastructure

As part of efforts to enhance field readiness, the department reviewed emergency plans, stormwater drainage networks, and the availability of machinery, while also evaluating the efficiency of municipal services in responding to weather-related challenges.

Leadership emphasises proactive approach

His Excellency Sultan Mohammed bin Huwaiden Al Ketbi, Chairman of the Department, highlighted that these tours reflect a proactive strategy to improve response times and safeguard lives and property, stressing the importance of coordination among relevant authorities.

Advanced readiness measures

Sheikh Engineer Mohammed bin Abdullah Al Qasimi, Director of the Department, noted that municipalities have reached advanced levels of preparedness by strategically distributing equipment and intensifying maintenance of drainage systems to ensure swift and effective responses.

Promoting community awareness

The tour also focused on strengthening public awareness, urging residents to follow safety guidelines and avoid low-lying and flood-prone areas during rainfall.

Continued monitoring and coordination

The delegation concluded by praising the high level of preparedness and reaffirming the continuation of inspection tours to enhance coordination and maintain top standards of readiness for varying weather conditions.
