The initiative welcomed between 150 and 200 guests daily, with attendance exceeding this number on some days, reflecting the growing popularity of the programme and its role in boosting social cohesion.
The initiative brought joy and fostered a sense of community among 24 elderly residents, providing them with opportunities to engage directly with visitors from various backgrounds.
The outdoor courtyard of the care home was transformed into a inviting open space, decorated with Ramadan-themed elements and hosting daily iftar gatherings in a warm and social atmosphere.
Residents actively engaged with guests, exchanged conversations, and gathered for Maghrib and Taraweeh prayers at the facility’s mosque, fostering their sense of belonging and connection.
Mariam Al Qatari, the director of the care home, stated that the initiative exceeded expectations, significantly enhancing social interaction between elderly residents and the wider community.
She emphasised the positive emotional impact on residents, who showed strong engagement and happiness throughout the programme.
Al Qatari expressed gratitude to all contributors, including government, private, and semi-government entities, as well as families, individuals, and children of various nationalities, including Indian and Chinese communities, in addition to staff of the Social Services Department.
She observed that the “Khattar Al Dar” initiative has been organised for ten years, with continuous development in organisation, décor, and accompanying activities each year.
The programme was fully booked throughout Ramadan and the Eid Al-Fitr period, demonstrating its success as a community-led initiative that promotes compassion and social bonds.
