Italy's national football team coach, Gennaro Gattuso, submitted his resignation on Friday, three days after failing to lead the Nazário to the 2026 World Cup, following the announcement of the departure of the Italian Football Federation president, Gabriele Gravina.
Failing to qualify for the 2026 World Cup
Gattuso was appointed in June 2025, succeeding Luciano Spalletti, with the goal of leading the Italian national team to its first World Cup appearance since 2014. However, Italy lost in the final of the first stage of the European playoffs to Bosnia and Herzegovina 1-4 on penalties (1-1 after extra time).
