Sharjah24: Paris Saint-Germain delivered a strong performance and secured a 2–0 victory over England’s Liverpool in the first leg of the UEFA Champions League quarter-finals.
The French side owed their victory to Desire Doue (11) and Georgian Khvicha Kvaratskhelia (65), who scored the two goals in a match largely dominated by coach Luis Enrique’s team.
The return leg will be held at Anfield Road in Liverpool next Tuesday. The winner will face either Germany’s Bayern Munich or Spain’s Real Madrid in the semi-finals, with Bayern having won the first leg away 2–1 in the Spanish capital.
The encounter is a rematch of last season’s Round of 16, which the defending champions won on penalties in England (4–1), after a 1–0 win for the French side in regulation and extra time, and a 1–1 aggregate score across both legs, with Ousmane Dembele scoring the decisive goal.
