Sharjah24: The University of Sharjah (UOS) has taken another step toward strengthening the readiness of national talent, graduating a new cohort from its professional diploma programmes in a ceremony that highlighted the growing alignment between higher education and workforce needs. A total of 95 graduates completed specialized programs, including 61 in health facility inspection developed in partnership with the Dubai Health Authority, 18 in international commercial arbitration in collaboration with the Sharjah International Commercial Arbitration Centre, and 16 in training of trainers (ToT). The programs were delivered through the University’s Continuing Education and Professional Development Center using a hybrid learning model.

Integration between Professional Training and Development priorities

Opening the graduation ceremony, Prof. Esameldin Agamy, Chancellor of the University of Sharjah, said the institution’s direction is guided by the vision of His Highness Sheikh Sultan bin Ahmed Al Qasimi, Deputy Ruler of Sharjah, and President of the University of Sharjah, which emphasises linking higher education to national development priorities and strengthening expertise across vital sectors. Prof. Agamy noted that the University’s academic mission extends beyond traditional education to support professionals at every stage of their careers, adding that the programs completed by graduates were designed to reshape professional practices and enhance performance in critical fields. He also underscored that partnerships with key institutions reflect a practical commitment to this vision, while the University continues to adopt global best practices to ensure meaningful integration between knowledge and application. Each graduate, he said, represents a tangible addition to their workplace and the broader institutional environment.

For her part, Dr Asmaa Nusairi, director of the Center for Continuing Education and Professional Development (CCEPD), described the center as a dynamic platform for lifelong learning, offering specialised programs that respond directly to labor market demands. She said the graduation of 95 participants demonstrates the success of these programs in preparing qualified professionals capable of advancing their skills and contributing to improved performance across diverse work environments, in support of the knowledge economy.

Academic and professional training tailored to the needs of institutions

The professional diploma in health facility inspection aims to prepare specialists capable of conducting regulatory inspections, applying health standards, and producing professional reports that support decision-making. Meanwhile, the diploma in international commercial arbitration equips participants with the expertise needed to conduct arbitration processes efficiently and professionally, meeting the demands of global trade within evolving legal frameworks. The Training of Trainers diploma focuses on enabling participants to design, implement, and evaluate training programs effectively by analysing training needs, applying modern methodologies, and developing comprehensive training materials that ensure measurable learning outcomes.

Academic and professional training tailored to the needs of key institutions took center stage as graduates reflected on the impact of the programs on their careers. Abdulhamid Mohammed Ali, a graduate of the health facility inspection diploma and a senior health inspector at the Dubai Health Authority, described the program as a pivotal step in advancing both his academic knowledge and professional skills. He said the 110-hour training had strengthened his readiness to play a more effective role in public health, adding that he plans to apply what he learned to improve the quality of inspection processes, enhance the accuracy of risk assessments in health facilities, and raise the standard of regulatory reporting.

Saeed Ahmed Mohammed Al Awadhi, a graduate of the international commercial arbitration diploma and a lawyer and legal consultant who founded his own practice, said the program deepened his understanding of arbitration procedures and legal principles, while sharpening his ability to resolve commercial disputes in line with international standards. He added that the diploma enhanced his practical skills in dispute analysis, drafting arbitration documents, and representing parties, opening new professional avenues in arbitration and legal consultancy.

Aisha Salem Al Mazrouei, head of population statistics at the Department of Statistics and Community Development and a graduate of the ToT diploma, said the program equipped her with professional skills in designing and delivering training programs, identifying training needs, and managing sessions effectively. She noted that she intends to apply these skills to deliver workshops and training initiatives that strengthen workforce capabilities, improve institutional performance, and promote the effective use of data in decision-making.

The graduation ceremony was attended by Dr Ahmed Ibrahim bin Kalban, advisor to the executive office of the health regulation sector at the Dubai Health Authority, and Dr Ahmed Saleh Al Ajla, director of the Sharjah International Commercial Arbitration Centre, along with a number of officials and representatives from partner organisations.
