The Committee began its meeting by examining the 2026 draft law on regulating the use of unmanned aerial vehicles (drones) in the Emirate of Sharjah, followed by the 2026 draft law on regulating the correctional institution in the Emirate. It commenced discussions on their legal provisions and regulatory objectives, stemming from its commitment to strengthening legislative frameworks that keep pace with technological developments and the requirements of institutional work across various sectors.
The meeting was chaired by the Committee Chairperson, in the presence of members: Ahmed Obaid Al Awasi Al Zaabi, Ahmed Rashid Al Shamsi, Sultan Saeed Dalmooq Al Suwaidi, Majid Ahmed Al Darwish Al Shamsi, and Salem Mohammed Al Rashidi. Also attending were Meera Khalifa Al Muqarrab, Secretary-General of the Council, and from the General Secretariat, Saif bin Suwaif Al Ketbi and Sumaya Al Hammoudi.
During the meeting, the Committee examined various views and observations on the two draft laws, with their articles undergoing detailed review in light of the referral from the Consultative Council. This was in accordance with the provisions of Clause Four of Article Seven of Law No. 2 of 1999 concerning the establishment of the Sharjah Executive Council, and pursuant to Article 72 of the Council’s internal regulations.
In its discussions, the Committee focused on the objectives sought by the draft law regulating the use of drones, particularly with regard to governing their use and establishing the necessary regulatory frameworks and controls to ensure the safety of individuals and property, in addition to enhancing the competencies of the relevant authorities in this field.
The Committee also addressed the draft law on regulating the correctional institution, in terms of organising institutional work and developing the correctional system in line with best practices.
At the conclusion of its meeting, the Committee affirmed its commitment to completing an in-depth study of the two draft laws, with the aim of preparing a comprehensive report containing its recommendations and observations, thereby contributing to supporting the legislative system in the Emirate of Sharjah and enhancing the efficiency of institutional performance in the relevant sectors.
