The venue will be the first Sphere destination outside the United States and is expected to be completed by the end of 2029.
Sphere Abu Dhabi will be built between Yas Mall and SeaWorld Abu Dhabi, surrounded by Yas Island’s entertainment and tourism attractions.
Mohamed Khalifa Al Mubarak, Chairman of DCT Abu Dhabi said the project reflects Abu Dhabi’s long-term vision and reinforces the emirate’s standing as a global destination for culture, tourism and entertainment.
He noted that the project will serve as a platform for Emirati culture, talent and storytelling, while attracting visitors, creators and investors from around the world.
James L. Dolan, Executive Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of Sphere Entertainment, described Abu Dhabi as a natural location for the company’s first international Sphere venue, citing the emirate’s ambition, infrastructure and status as a cultural crossroads.
The venue will host immersive Sphere Experiences, concert residencies and major global events, all supported by advanced experiential technologies.
Plans also include showcasing Emirati artists’ work on the Exosphere, the spherical LED exterior display, as well as immersive productions highlighting Emirati culture and heritage.
Sphere Abu Dhabi is expected to accommodate up to 20,000 visitors, depending on event configuration, and to create thousands of jobs during operational phases.
The project will further strengthen Yas Island’s standing as a global entertainment destination, alongside attractions such as the Formula 1 Etihad Airways Abu Dhabi Grand Prix and upcoming tourism developments.
